On Pain

Lucas Cranach the Elder, Copy of The Last Judgement by Hieronymous Bosch, 1520
Chosen Paragraph:
"We find ourselves in a situation where we are still capable of grasping what is lost; we can still sense the destruction of values and how the world is becoming more shallow and superficial. New generations are growing up far removed from all our inherited traditions, and it is an amazing feeling to see these children many of whom will live to experience the year 2000. By then, the last remnants of the modern, i.e., Copernican, age will most likely have disappeared (p. 45). Jungar
Meaning of Chosen Paragraph:
With my understanding of this paragraph, Junger (The author) was expressing his view on how liberalism (at his time) created and will continue to brainwash individuals. Liberalism seems to create a platform of freedom and comfort but it is the other way around. With Junger, it is better to face the truth which is "Pain" than to be lied to. As civilians gets comfortable they tend to forget what might cost them in the future. This trends down to a point where future kids may not be thought of what is real and what is safe for them.
Reason for choosing this passage:
I may start with my experience of how the life and culture has changed dramatically through technology. I was born and raised in a culturally rich village in the beautiful continent of Africa. Due to technology and a liberal practice of the governments and the civilians there has been great change to the extent the new generation if having knowledge deficit of what the real culture of the land is.
