Siddhartha

Passage from Siddhartha Reading

"Siddhartha had started to nurse discontent in himself, he had started to feel that the love of his father and the love of his mother, and also the love of his friend, Govinda, would not bring him joy for ever and ever, would not nurse him, feed him, satisfy him. He had started to suspect that his venerable father and his other teachers, that the wise Brahmans had already revealed to him the most and best of their wisdom, that they had already filled his expecting vessel with their richness, and the vessel was not full, the spirit was not content, the soul was not calm, the heart was not satisfied. The ablutions were good, but they were water, they did not wash off the sin, they did not heal the spirit's thirst, they did not relieve the fear in his heart. The sacrifices and the invocation of the gods were excellent—but was that all? Did the sacrifices give a happy fortune? And what about the gods? Was it really Prajapati who had created the world? Was it not the Atman, He, the only one, the singular one? Were the gods not creations, created like me and you, subject to time, mortal? Was it therefore good, was it right, was it meaningful and the highest occupation to make offerings to the gods? For whom else were offerings to be made, who else was to be worshipped but Him, the only one, the Atman? And where was Atman to be found, where did He reside, where did his eternal heart beat, where else but in one's own self, in its innermost part, in its indestructible part, which everyone had in himself? But where, where was this self, this innermost part, this ultimate part? It was not flesh and bone, it was neither thought nor consciousness, thus the wisest ones taught. So, where, where was it? To reach this place, the self, myself, the Atman, there was another way, which was worthwhile looking for? Alas, and nobody showed this way, nobody knew it, not the father, and not the teachers and wise men, not the holy sacrificial songs! They knew everything, the Brahmans and their holy books, they knew everything, they had taken care of everything and of more than everything, the creation of the world, the origin of speech, of food, of inhaling, of exhaling, the arrangement of the senses, the acts of the gods, they knew infinitely much—but was it valuable to know all of this, not knowing that one and only thing, the most important thing, the solely important thing? "

My Understanding and view
To my understanding people (friends, family, loved one's and the community) sees him as a very clean, noble, honorable and also possessing goldly moral role but deep down in Siddhartha he felt he is as regular as everybody that sin and uncleaned as they see but it is just that he him self had train, kept and followed the elders advice that were said to him. That was what he believed in and had practice and worked towards that. There might be some god's but when it comes to down to doing whats right to gain something that is right in return its the individual self.

I chose this paragraph because of its intriguing sense it makes. and in simple sentence my this passage was depicting that in this life/world, WE JUST REAP WHAT WE SAW!!

Dada Manifesto

Dada Manifesto

"It will serve to show how articulated language comes into being. I let the vowels fool around. I let the vowels quite simply occur, as a cat meows . . . Words emerge, shoulders of words, legs, arms, hands of words. Au, oi, uh. One shouldn't let too many words out. A line of poetry is a chance to get rid of all the filth that clings to this accursed language, as if put there by stockbrokers' hands, hands worn smooth by coins. I want the word where it ends and begins. Dada is the heart of words."

Dada itself has many meanings in different languages and dialects. It could mean good in a point and then bad in another language. Even though the paragraph and the whole passage on Dada movement by Hugo Ball couldn't emphasize really well what Dada is, in my view I believe the passage is showing a point that since Dada doesn't have a real and one unique meaning among languages Nihilist feels that and how is how the world is. Thus Nihilist feels there's nothing on earth that is valuable and everything is worthless.

EXPRESSIONISM

EXPRESSIONISM

The term "expressionism" is meant to refer to the artist's expression of their soul in the painting.
In my view art at that time wasn't just drawing a piece of object or composition of an object but rather to reflect one's inner feeling. With the use of colorful paints in expressionism artists were able to portray their thought and feelings of the world being filled with war. i think the author said gave saw expressionism was a great tool to criticize the government at that time when war and threats of war(s) were in the air and the government seemed to do what ever they thought was right and not listening to the what the people say. I like the authors interpretation of expressionism as it inspire me in a way that there are various ways to be noticed or express ones feelings other than vocally speaking. Drawing is a great tool to express one view. Most artist today still express themselves in our modern society. Colorful artistry drawings are being made in criticizing the government. Examples of such drawings are political cartoons of government officials in news papers and wall painting graffiti

'Rouen Cathedral in Full Sunlight

Rouen Cathedral in Full Sunlight 1893-94
This piece of art was created in during the impressionist movement era by Claude Monet born 14 November 1840 – 5 December 1926. He is from France and was the founder of the French Imperialist movement. The painting was done with oil on canvas.
Imperialism as the name suggest in art is using bright colorful pigments to impress or gain attention in or to express one's view through art. One of his techniques used in here i believe was the more natural imagery of the drawings and the bright colorful paints ( red, blue, and yellow) creates impression of a real image.

'The Red Tower at Halle', 1915 (oil on canvas

'The Red Tower at Halle', 1915 (oil on canvas by  Ernst Ludwig Kirchner

Painting by  Ernst Ludwig Kirchner born 6 May 1880 – 15 June 1938. He was a German Expressionist artist and painter. Expressionist painting was one that projects the painter's inner feeling (Thus emotionally and spiritually)
The drawing is on a canvas painted with oil red showing different paths, blue, black and pinkish background. In my perspective I believe he was portraying a an emotional feeling of how the beautiful world is divided into two. A beautiful and peaceful part but then leads to the other part where its full of war and fights.
The Expressionists were divided into two elements which the art depicts:The Die Brücke and The Der Blaue Reiter.
The Die Brücke meaning bridge was one part which the art shows in red/orange-like. it was an artistic community of young artists in Dresden who aimed to overthrow the conservative traditions of German art. Whiles The Der Blaue Reiter (the Blue Rider) was a group of artists whose publications and exhibitions sought to find a common creative ground between the various Expressionist art form

"The Eclipse of the Sun," George Grosz, 1926

This colorful piece is by the famous German artist called George Grosz (July 26, 1893 - July 6, 1959) and is entitled "The Eclipse of the Sun". Exact date is not given but was in the year of 1926. This was an "Objective" drawing ( Drawing that depicts what is really happening).
In my view I think this art is ll about the authorities being bossy and bullish as the man man in the green army/ political outfit seemed to be angry if he doesn't get to hear what pleases him from other non-powerful people.  he feels to be listened to and to follow is orders if not he blindfolds you like a donkey and kills you off. a skeleton on the floor shows how he kills and leaves you off if he rather than the non opposing figures sitting and listening to him.
